Avata Pro making Dashboard unusably slow.

I've been struggling with Avata Pro for a while, and my biggest problem is that every page load in the wp-admin now takes 5-6 seconds, even just opening the dashboard or switching between posts and media.

I have disabled ALL plugins and this behaviour continues, the behaviour only disappears and speed returns to the normal fast response when I switch to a different theme (eg the default theme)

This is making the system useless for me.

I've tried optimizing the database (but it's tiny right now with hardly any content), the web server is under my desk on a 1000mbit network connection so there's no issue between the server and the browser. The server has plenty of resources.

I don't know why it's doing this, but the network monitor in chrome shows the delay is entirely due to loading the index.php file (for example), none of the other content loaded after it is slow, whatever Avata Pro is doing is causing the index.php file to take forever to render.

I really need this to be fixed - I don't know if it's a bug in Avata or if it's something specific to my configuration (which is fairly standard).

Help please!

Ok. I've found out why.

In theme-updater.php it's doing an update check on EVERY REQUEST.

Commenting out the line

add_filter('site_transient_update_themes', 'check_for_update');

Solves it.
